'Underwater Garden' Mosaic Birdbath

SOLD

Inspired by wonderful coral reefs combined with colourful pebbles and stones seen in mountain streams,  I just had to make this colourful bird bath with my mosaic art!

I made the base of the birdbath out of concrete moulded over a shallow dome shape, this means it is robust and able to left outdoors. For the mosaic artwork,  I glazed my large tiles with 18 different coloured glazes and glaze fired in the kiln twice to get a good depth of colour.

After firing the tiles were then smashed up by myself with a wood mallet. The pieces were then carefully reassembled into the finished design and fixed in place, and then grouted with a charcoal grey grout suitable for outdoors.

The centre part of the bowl is reminiscent of the coloured pebbles along the streams and the many coloured mosaic pieces that fill the rest of the bowl are inspired by the coral reef colours and underwater plants.

While this birdbath has been sold, I am happy to take a commission to make another similar, or to particular colour scheme or theme of flowers , underwater corals or a colourful abstract design. I've got loads of ideas!

The handmade stand was made by a local blacksmith and made to order.
